Samhuinn Poem
Long ago,
its seems, from here,
and far across oceans,
I draw you near.
Once we danced,
you and I,
danced together
as we moved from birth,
through your life.
Not
so long ago
I stood at the gate
between this world
and the void,
asked for your passage,
and, nearly savaged,
was turned away.
Not for me to escort you there.
You
come sometimes
into my dreams,
a beautiful wolf,
so loving and bold,
my beloved friend
loyal and true,
and full of life,
and I love you.
My old friend,
you slipped the veil
and I wasn't there
to sing you home
or hold you
as you passed,
or cry into the rain
as they returned you to Earth.
But my friend,
I danced with you
and sniffed the air,
fought officers,
and tasted fear,
and you my love,
I taste you still,
black dog - I always will.
And perhaps my chest shall break,
holding in all this pain
of a family I once had,
and the happiness we shared,
for you, my dog,
you did dance with me
when nothing else made sense,
and now, you're gone away,
and I, alone, remain.
Beautiful Sid,
I capture for a moment your face,
your smile,
your warm embrace,
stones on black sands
and pussy cats
to chase.
Beloved friend,
your passing ripped a hole through me,
left a gap,
where once
was family,
and now I stand far away,
never to return
again,
but you my love,
on my knees
I grieve your death,
as you pass back into Earth...
but, just for a moment,
I smell you,
and can smile,
knowing,
your song remains.
Fare thee well,
beloved friend.
Thank you
for your company,
dance well
eternally.
